SERI KEMBANGAN, Aug 9 — The private sector needs to expand second-career opportunities for military veterans as part of efforts to strengthen their welfare and empowerment, says ‘Kempen Tabung Pahlawan’ (Warriors Fund Campaign) patron Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
She said the private sector also played an important role in ensuring military veterans got the opportunity to continue contributing to society and the nation after ending their service with the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).
“I call on more parties to come forward and contribute to the Kempen Tabung Pahlawan, as well as veteran associations under the MAF Veterans’ Affairs Department (JHEV).
“Every sen contributed will go directly towards the welfare and wellbeing of our national heroes,” she said in her speech at the closing ceremony of the MyHeroes Golf Championship Cup 2026 (MYGCC 2026), organised by the Royal Malaysian Navy Veterans’ Association (PVTLDM), here today.
Also present were Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Dr Zulhelmy Ithnain and PVTLDM president Commander (Rtd) Khairil Hariss Khairuddin, who is also MYGCC 2026 programme director.
A total of RM220,000 was raised from eight private companies through MYGCC 2026, in conjunction with Kempen Tabung Pahlawan, reinforcing the programme’s role as a fundraising platform for military veterans’ welfare.
Wan Azizah, who is also Bandar Tun Razak MP, said the government, through the MAF and JHEV, remained committed to safeguarding the welfare of military veterans and advancing their empowerment agenda.
She said records showed that public and corporate concern for Kempen Tabung Pahlawan continued to show positive growth.
“The contributions collected are used to support thousands of veterans and their dependants in terms of livelihood assistance, medical care, and education for the children of our heroes.
“This achievement is proof of the spirit of togetherness and the ethic of hard work without complacency, reflecting the principle of readiness to sacrifice that is upheld by every member of the Royal Malaysian Navy and the MAF,” she said. — Bernama
