MARANG, Aug 7 — Terengganu Bersatu was left reeling after Datuk Razali Idris announced his resignation as state chief, a post he has held for a decade.
Razali, who is also a state executive councillor and one of Bersatu’s founding members in 2016, confirmed he had submitted his resignation letter to party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on July 16.
“So far, the party headquarters, including Muhyiddin, has yet to confirm or decide whether to accept or reject the resignation,” he told Berita Harian (BH) yesterday.
He further confirmed he would step down as Marang division chief in mid August, citing the need to settle party matters at the division level.
“I am only resigning as state chief and division chief, but I remain a party member,” he said.
According to BH, two other senior leaders — Telemong assemblyman Mohd Zawawi Ismail and Hulu Besut assemblyman Mohd Husaimi Hussin — also announced their resignations.
Another top leader, Bersatu Kuala Nerus division chief and deputy speaker of the Terengganu assembly Khazan Che Mat, who is also the party’s deputy state chief, is expected to follow suit.
Khazan declined to elaborate but offered a metaphor: “If the head is gone, the tail will follow.”
He told BH, “I joined Bersatu in 2016 at Razali’s invitation. If he resigns, why should I continue holding office?”
