SHAH ALAM, July 8 — A motor workshop owner pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of causing grievous hurt to a man by hacking him with a machete at a premises in Puchong last year.
K. Devaidran, 42, entered the plea after the charge was read out in Tamil before Judge ‘Ainul Bashiirah Dona Don Biyajid.
He is charged with committing the offence against B. Kartigeyen, 39, by hacking the victim’s body, arms, and legs with a machete at Kampung Bunga Melur, Batu 14, Puchong, at about 11.30 pm on Jan 25, 2025.
The charge, framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years, as well as a possible fine or whipping, upon conviction.
The court allowed Devaidran bail of RM10,000 with one surety and also ordered him to report to a nearby police station, refrain from disturbing prosecution witnesses and surrender his passport.
The court also set Aug 13 for mention.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Amir Saifullah Mohammad Sallehuddin appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Mohd Safwan Saleh represented the accused. — Bernama
