KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is ramping up its Electric Train Service (ETS) capacity this weekend to accommodate a surge of passengers heading south for the Johor state election this Saturday.

Following a total sell-out of an earlier batch of tickets on June 19, KTMB is deploying eight additional services across two key routes: KL Sentral–JB Sentral–KL Sentral and JB Sentral–Gemas–JB Sentral.

For those planning their trip, ticket sales for the JB Sentral–Gemas–JB Sentral route opened today at 3:00 pm. Tickets for the KL Sentral–JB Sentral–KL Sentral route will go on sale Wednesday at 9:00 am.

Operating from July 10 to 12, these extra trips offer 312 seats each, adding a total of 7,464 tickets over the three-day period. The move is designed to give Johor voters more flexibility and a more comfortable journey home.

To make the trip easier on the pocket, KTMB is offering a 20 per cent promotional discount on these additional ETS services from July 10 to 12. The discount aligns with the government’s “Road to Rail” initiative, encouraging Malaysians to swap the steering wheel for a train seat.

“This initiative is expected to encourage more members of the public to choose rail transport to return and fulfil their responsibility as voters, thereby contributing to smoother traffic flow and supporting the nation's sustainable mobility agenda,” KTMB said.

Passengers are advised to book early to secure affordable fares and avoid the last-minute rush. To ensure a seamless boarding process, travellers should arrive at the station at least 30 minutes before departure, keeping in mind that boarding gates close strictly five minutes before the train leaves.

Tickets are available via the KITS Style app, the official KTMB website, or ticket kiosks at selected stations.
