MUAR, June 28 — Internet connectivity disruptions in Kampung Sungai Balang Darat and surrounding areas here are expected to be resolved by the third quarter of this year with the construction of a 45-metre telecommunications tower.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the ministry had identified the need for the digital infrastructure project and had been working with CelcomDigi on its implementation since the end of last year.

He said the tower would be equipped with Multi Operator Core Network (MOCN) technology, allowing all major telecommunications providers to share the network and ensuring comprehensive coverage.

“We will ensure that all telcos can use the tower once it becomes operational. Insya-Allah, internet connectivity issues in several critical locations in Sungai Balang will be addressed immediately,” he said when met at the Jiwa@Komuniti Madani Sembang Santai World Cup Edition programme at Pasar Awam Parit Jawa here today.

Earlier, Fahmi joined members of the public for breakfast while watching the live broadcast of the football match between Jordan and Argentina.

He further said the earlier settlement process involved a number of technical procedures, including land purchase and acquisition for the tower site.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said his ministry, through the Information Department, would continue the Ziarah Kasih Madani programme to directly engage with grassroots communities and resolve issues affecting them.

When asked about cyber misconduct monitoring during the Johor state election, he said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is operating round the clock to curb the spread of fake news and sensitive content involving race, religion and royalty (3R) issues.

“If members of the public observe any violations of election laws, they may file reports with the Election Commission (EC) and the authorities will take action, especially in cases involving candidates.

“If you come across any 3R content on Facebook, file a report with Facebook and it should take action. If Facebook fails to act, you may report the matter to the MCMC for follow-up action,” he said.

The Johor state election is set for July 11, with early voting scheduled for July 7.
