KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — The Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) has advised the public to remain vigilant against concert ticket scams involving BTS World Tour that have been detected across various social media platforms.
CCID director Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said authorities have detected syndicates and scammers using various online platforms to offer concert tickets, particularly for VIP, Soundcheck and Priority Access categories.
“A total of 41 cases involving BTS concert ticket scams have been recorded, resulting in losses amounting to RM95,974.81,” he said in a statement here.
Rusdi said the CCID’s assessment of the risk of scams involving BTS concert tickets is concerning, with such schemes expected to increase once official tickets are sold out, driven by high demand and the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) among fans.
Explaining on the modus operandi identified, Rusdi said this includes offering tickets before official sales or pre-sale periods begin, claiming to have insider access or special ticket allocations, using doctored screenshots as proof of booking, and pressuring victims to make immediate payments via bank transfers, DuitNow or QR codes to supposedly “secure” their ticket reservations.
“Once payment is made, victims either do not receive the promised tickets or find that the suspects can no longer be contacted,” he said.
He then advised the public to only purchase tickets only through official channels announced by the organiser or authorised sales agents.
“Avoid making payments to individuals offering tickets via social media without verified credentials; and be cautious of claims involving special access, insider allocations or pre-sale tickets before official sales open.
“They are also urged to verify bank account details and phone numbers through the Semak Mule portal before making any transactions, and to contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 immediately if they suspect they have been scammed,” he said.
Rusdi said the CCID will continue monitoring scam trends involving entertainment ticket sales and take appropriate action against those involved in fraudulent activities.
“The public is further reminded to remain vigilant and avoid making hasty decisions that could result in financial losses,” he added.
The warning comes ahead of BTS World Tour “Arirang” concerts in Kuala Lumpur on December 12 and 13 at the TM National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
