MELAKA, June 5 — Police investigations into the case of alleged molestation and rape in a mosque mortuary in Melaka found no elements of criminal wrongdoing.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the case has now been referred to the Melaka Islamic Religious Department for further action under the Melaka Syariah Offences Enactment 1991.

He said police received a report on the allegations at 9.12 am yesterday from a woman in her 50s, who claimed she had been repeatedly molested and raped by a 48-year-old man.

He said a thorough investigation, however, found that the alleged criminal acts did not take place.

“The statements obtained indicate that there was no element of coercion, thus failing to establish any criminal offence,” he said in a statement here today.

Dzulkhairi said the allegations had also gone viral and become a topic of discussion among the local community. — Bernama
