NIBONG TEBAL, June 3 — Police are tracking down a male suspect who attacked a man with a machete during an armed robbery at a convenience store in Taman Bistari here last Sunday.
South Seberang Perai district deputy police chief DSP Mohd Norazmi Abd Ghapar said the victim, 27, sustained injuries to his head and both arms during the robbery at 9.29 pm, during which the suspect escaped with cash, several boxes of cigarettes and a sling bag with an estimated loss of RM500.
“Police have obtained CCTV footage of the robbery and are conducting further analysis, including identifying the vehicle used by the suspect, which is believed to be using foreign registration plates,” he said in a statement last night, adding that the victim, who was first treated at Sungai Bakap Hospital, is currently in stable condition at Sunway Penang Hospital.
Forensic examination at the robbery location was conducted to gather evidence to facilitate investigations under Section 394 of the Penal Code, he said, stressing that investigations had begun as soon as a report was received and did not depend on the video that went viral on social media today.
He also urged those with information about the robbery to contact investigating officer, Insp Noremifarahana Tuan Roslan at 04-5858222 or the nearest police station to assist investigations. — Bernama
