MERSING, June 1 — A married couple died in an accident involving three vehicles at Kilometre 19, Jalan Endau-Mersing here yesterday afternoon.

Mersing district police chief Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said his team received information regarding the accident involving a Perodua Myvi, Toyota Innova, and Chery Omoda at around 5.10pm.

He said the victims, Muhammad Firdaus Muhamad Bustaman, 24, and Siti Nur Aisyah Anoor Beet Babjan Kahar, 23, from Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang, sustained severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The accident is believed to have occurred when the Perodua Myvi car, carrying Muhammad Firdaus and Siti Nur Aisyah, heading towards Mersing, lost control before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with a Toyota Innova and a Chery Omoda. It was raining heavily at that time,” he said in a statement last night.

Abdul Razak said the driver of the Toyota Innova fractured his right toe, while his wife sustained minor injuries, and the 75-year-old driver of the Chery Omoda was reported to have been unhurt.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
