SHAH ALAM, May 28 — Search and rescue (SAR) operations for a 10-year-old boy who fell into Sungai Bernam in Kampung Sungai Nilam, Gedangsa, Hulu Selangor entered its second day today, with the search area expanded to a three-kilometre radius.

According to Berita Harian, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the SAR team was still searching for Muhammad Aakif Imran Asrul Nizam as of 11am.

“The team is conducting surface searches within a three-kilometre radius from the Fire Control Post (PKB), assisted by other agencies including the Slim River Fire and Rescue Station.

“The Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) and K9 tracking unit are also deployed at the scene,” he said in a statement.

He said yesterday’s search covered a 1.6-kilometre radius, with divers deployed to areas believed to be the point where the victim fell into the river.

Earlier reports said the boy was believed to have fallen while playing at the riverbank before being swept away by strong currents.

The victim was reportedly wearing a pink short-sleeved shirt and black shorts at the time of the incident.
