SEREMBAN, May 8 — Negeri Sembilan police have recorded statements from 49 individuals to assist investigations into statements and the dissemination of social media content related to current issues involving the state’s royalty and administration.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said investigations were launched following several police reports lodged over content deemed provocative and capable of creating anxiety and confusion among the public.

“The investigation papers will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor soon for further instructions.

“The investigations are being conducted under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 500 of the Penal Code, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he said in a statement here today.

He also advised the public not to issue statements or spread content touching on 3R issues (religion, race and royalty), especially through social media, that are provocative and could threaten public order.

He urged the public to always comply with the law and refrain from making any speculation that could affect social harmony and the stability of the state.

Strict action will be taken against any party found involved in acts that could disrupt security, public order and social harmony, he said. — Bernama
