KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — The Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application used during Op Selamat 26 has helped lower the crime index during this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive period.
Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the crime index fell by 111 cases, from 858 cases during Op Selamat 24 (March 29 to April 3, 2025) to 747 cases during Op Selamat 26 (March 19 to 24, 2026).
He said the implementation of Op Selamat 26 reflected increased collaboration between the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the community through the VSP, alongside the execution of more organised and focused crime prevention strategies.
Mohd Yusri said the number of complaints made through the VSP rose from 80 to 150 during the same period.
“The balik kampung notification module also saw a surge from 8,036 (submissions previously) to 16,889 (this year), while the use of the panic button increased from five to seven cases,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Yusri said police visited 61,122 vacant houses and carried out 31,636 Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) rounds during Op Selamat 26.
“The positive trend in the crime index assisted in making MPV patrols and visits to vacant homes more comprehensive,” he said.
He said that as of March 30, there were 1,705,852 VSP members, showing increased public awareness and cooperation with police in crime prevention.
Mohd Yusri said PDRM will continue to strengthen crime prevention strategies through patrolling, enforcement, and community engagement. — Bernama
