KOTA BELUD, Oct 29 — Barisan Nasional (BN) will field a candidate in the Pintasan state constituency in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election, said Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
The Sabah BN chairman announced this during a ‘Kenduri Sekampung’ at Kampung Nanamun here last night organised by ABM Sabah Region chief executive officer Tadzul Radim.
Bung Moktar said that while all proposed candidates for BN are qualified, the party will only select those deemed most “winnable” and accepted by the people.
“All the proposed candidates have their own strengths and qualifications, but we will choose the best, someone who can win and truly represent the people’s voice,” he said.
“I urge all BN machinery to remain united and avoid division.”
Meanwhile, Kampung Pintasan resident Muhammad Nur Fikri Halim Thakdim said he hoped the chosen candidate would prioritise local development.
“We in Pintasan just want a representative who genuinely goes to the ground and helps develop our village,” he said.
Fellow resident Jamlan Makuntang also expressed his hope that the winning candidate in would focus on advancing tourism and agriculture in the Pintasan area.
“We want to see more attention given to tourism and farming opportunities here,” he said.
The incumbent for Pintasan is Gagasan Rakyat Sabah Youth chief Datuk Fairuz Renddan, who won the seat in 2020 for Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) with an 84-vote majority.
He polled 2,744 votes in a six-cornered race against Usno Baru’s Pandikar Amin Mulia (2,660 votes), Parti Warisan’s Mohd Safian Saludin (1,816 votes), independent Almudin Kaida (780 votes), and Parti Cinta Sabah’s Padlan Samad (188), and Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah’s Roslan Mayahman (50 votes). — The Borneo Post
