IPOH, April 20 — A two-year-old boy drowned after falling into a lake beside a mosque of a private university near Seri Iskandar today.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations division asst director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the boy’s family informed them that the boy fell into the lake when they were at the mosque conducting prayers.

The Seri Iskandar Fire and Rescue Station received a distress call at 1.29pm and a team arrived at the location about 10 minutes later.

“CCTV footage of the area revealed that the boy was next to the lake.

“He was found at 4.25pm about three metres from the bank and handed over to the police for further action,” he added.

Meanwhile Perak Tengah district police chief Supt Hafezul Helmi Hamzah said in a statement that the victim’s body was brought to Changkat Melintang Hospital, Bota.

“A post-mortem will be conducted tonight to determine cause of death, he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 33 of the Child Act 2001.
