IPOH, Dec 11 — The Election Court today dismissed a petition to annul the victory of Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate for the Gombak Setia seat in the Selangor State Election last August.

The decision was made by Ipoh High Court Judge Datuk Abdul Wahab Mohamed, who sat as the Election Court Judge.

The petition was filed by a voter, Mohd Shaffie Omar, to challenge the results of the seat based on claims that voters had been bribed by the respondent - PN candidate Muhamad Hilman Idham - during the polls.

Lawyer Mohd Radzlan Jalaluddin, representing Muhammad Hilman, when contacted by Bernama confirmed the matter and said the petition was dismissed with costs of RM25,000.

The petitioner was represented by lawyer Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun.

In the Selangor state polls on Aug 12, Muhamad Hilman, who obtained 30,299 votes, won the Gombak Setia seat, defeating Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin (30,241 votes) and Independent candidate Mohamed Salim Mohamed Ali (1,076 votes). — Bernama
