KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tonight announced an initial fund of RM1 million to the Malaysian Youth Council Alumni Foundation.

Anwar said the proposed establishment of the foundation, which aims to safeguard the welfare and recognise the services and deeds of former youth figures, was conveyed to him by the president of the Malaysian Youth Council Alumni, Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, who is also the deputy home minister.

Speaking at the Malaysian Youth Council Alumni dinner at the World Trade Centre tonight, he recalled the establishment of the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM).

It was sparked by the outcry of young people demanding change, said the prime minister.

He said under the leadership of Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim, there is a willingness to discuss programmes for young people, some of which can be implemented with the cooperation of youth organisations in the country.

He called for cooperation from youth organisations in the country to join forces to convey a clear message to young people, especially the aspect of nationhood and the noble values that are the spirit of Malaysia Madani.

The prime minister also called for cooperation from other departments and ministries to provide space and facilities for former youth leaders to get involved in entrepreneurship and business. — Bernama
