KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — Putrajaya's spending from the Covid-19 fund dropped by 17.9 per cent in 2022 to RM30.98 billion compared to RM37.71 billion in 2021, the Auditor-General said in its latest report.

In the report on the Federal Government's 2022 Financial Statement, it said that the fund's accumulated spending has so far reached RM106.71 billion as of the end of 2022 — which was 97 per cent of its ceiling of RM110 billion.

The highest spending recorded was for social assistance support for vulnerable groups at RM9.04 billion, followed by the Bantuan Prihatin Nasional financial aid (RM7.91 billion).

Other spending included electricity bill discounts (RM5.88 billion), and on wage subsidy, job retention and workers' hiring incentive and training assistance programmes (RM2.32 billion).

On May 5, the WHO ended the global emergency status for Covid-19, more than three years after its original declaration on January 30, 2020.

However the agency said the end of the emergency did not mean Covid-19 was over as a global health threat.
