MELAKA, Oct 7 — The future national-level One District One Industry (SDSI) Madani Showcase will be revitalised in an effort to promote the products of local entrepreneurs, said Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.

He said a working paper is being prepared regarding the proposed improvement to be tabled to the Cabinet.

“The SDSI is not only to showcase and sell the products of local entrepreneurs but, more importantly, to propel it forward so that we can create more entrepreneurs whose products are unique and have local identities throughout the country.”

He said this in a press conference after officiating the national-level SDSI Madani Showcase 2023 at the Melaka International Trade Centre here today.

When asked to elaborate on the plan, Ewon said it would only be revealed after discussions with the Cabinet but assured that it would be tailored to meet the needs and challenges faced by entrepreneurs today.

“We want to see improvements, identity enhancement and new elements on SDSI in accordance with current needs and challenges,” he said.

In the meantime, Ewon said the ministry has no problem with continuing to collaborate with the Melaka government to organise the national-level SDSI programme but is open to offers from other states to host the event.

“So far, we have not received any request from any state to host it, and traditionally, the Melaka has been the host for the national level, and we have no objection to continue doing it here.

“For this year’s event, we want to help the state government promote the Visit Melaka Year 2024,” he said.

The three-day showcase programme brought together 145 entrepreneurs from all over the country to showcase and sell products from the four SDSI clusters, namely food and beverage, homestays, craft products and health services. — Bernama
