PUTRAJAYA, Sept 21 — Religious affairs minister Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar has today reminded Muslims to preserve the dignity of others, after Perikatan Nasional’s Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin made a “sodomy” remark in the Dewan Rakyat recently.
Asked by reporters in Radzi had gone against any Islamic teachings for his accusation against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Na’im said Islam has always taught its followers to guard their speech.
“I advise everyone in general to preserve each other’s dignity. Never make any accusations that can humiliate someone.
“So that’s why Islam is professional, and reminds us to guard our mouths and dignity. God willing, if we cover up someone’s shame, Allah will do the same for us,” he told reporters at the sidelines of the Islamic Family Regional Conference 2023 in Putra Mosque here.
On Tuesday, the Parliament was plunged into chaos with a 40-minute shouting match between both political divides during Anwar’s winding-up speech for the 12th Malaysia Plan Mid-Term Review debate.
The incident was sparked by a series of misunderstandings between Anwar and Radzi, with the former believing the latter had laughed at him while the latter thought the former was referring to him on misconduct.
Anwar later explained that he had meant the “Putrajaya administration” of which Radzi was a member, rather than directly mentioning him as “Putrajaya MP”.
Radzi had demanded Anwar to take his allegation back, and also accused Anwar of sodomy.
The PN lawmaker was then ejected from the House, and other Opposition MPs followed him with a walk-out.
