KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 — National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang today launched the KAMI Tuition Centre, which will provide free additional education to underprivileged students, at the Taman Sri Serdang Rukun Tetangga Community (KRT) in Petaling, Selangor today.

In a statement today, the ministry said the initiative was also to assist students to improve their academic performance as well as to fulfil the ministry's social responsibility to the community and to realise the government's aspirations to empower the people through quality education.

According to the statement, this tuition will be given through the National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN), driven by the KRT which targets Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2024 candidates from low-income families, average performers and those weak in academics.

The statement said that the programme will also be implemented through the Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS) by targeting rural communities, the asnaf (those eligible to receive zakat or tithes) and the B40 group.

"The programme focuses on SPM's six core subjects, namely Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, Science, History and Islamic Studies.

“For the first six months, tuition classes will be conducted along with academic monitoring, human capital development workshops or nurturing and development. Next, 'Jejak Lepasan SPM' will be created for six months to monitor the direction of the students and the programme's success," said the statement.

According to the ministry, a food aid initiative will also be implemented throughout the tuition period to ensure students will be comfortable and focused without having to go back and forth to their homes which will incur logistics expenses for them.

The programme has the cooperation of Lembaga Tabung Haji, which has channelled a total of RM500,000 for the implementation of the tuition for the period 2023/2024, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Education Ministry.

KAMI Tuition Centre, which represents one of the ministry's latest initiatives under ‘Membangun Komuniti MADANI’, has also received the cooperation of the National Library which donated 500 books and also launched the Unity Library at the Taman Sri Serdang KRT. — Bernama
