KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reportedly urged Hulu Kelang constituents in a campaign rally last night to eliminate the so-called “traitors” when voting for the Selangor state election.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman was also quoted by Utusan Malaysia saying he had handpicked its candidate for Hulu Kelang, Juwairiya Zulkifli, because he is confident of her ability to unseat incumbent and former PH leader Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“We send a woman leader, I think we have to win this seat. I put a figure, that can easily break Mohamed Azmin.

“I gave instructions to [Selangor PH chief, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari] to place Juwairiya. I want Hulu Kelang to teach how it turned out for Gombak [parliamentary seat],” he added, referring to Azmin’s loss against Amirudin in the last general election.

Without naming any candidates, Anwar also cited the story Raja Mendeliar and Si Kitol and urged more than 2,000 people that attended the “ceramah” in Gombak yesterday to vote for PJ.

“I remember The Malay Annals which says that people who are traitors should first be put to death by impalement.

“Young people may not know what that punishment is. Bamboo is taken and poked from the bottom to the mouth, until the criminal dies. After that, the house will be burnt to the ground and the ground of the house was hoed and thrown into the sea,” he reportedly said.

According to The Malay Annals, Si Kitol and Raja Mendeliar were treacherous, divisive individuals in 16th century Melaka, causing a situation that left Melaka vulnerable to the invading Portuguese, which led to the collapse of the Melaka Sultanate.

For Hulu Kelang state constituency, Juwairiya will go against Selangor PN chief Azmin who used to be PKR deputy president before joining Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia in the infamous “Sheraton Move” in 2020.

Hulu Kelang will see a straight fight between Juwairiya and Azmin on August 12.

Polling day for the Selangor state has been set for August 12, while early voting will take place on August 8.

A total of 56 seats will be contested in Selangor.
