PONTIAN, July 24 — Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub has been described as not only a politician who looked after the people’s welfare, but as one who also cared for his political comrades, said Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president said Salahuddin was among the first political leaders to give him a lot of guidance when they were both in the federal government under Pakatan Harapan (PH) after the 14th general election (GE14) in 2018.

“Among the things I will never forget about Salahuddin was that he will be among the first who will contact me to enquire what was needed for my various humanitarian aid projects.

“During the flood relief mission and the collapsed jetty incident in Muar, it was Salahuddin who contacted me first and asked what kind of assistance was needed for the affected victims.

“He is very in touch with the people’s needs in times of hardship,” said Syed Saddiq when met after paying his last respects to Salahuddin in Kampung Serkat, Tanjung Piai here today.

The Muar MP also described Salahuddin as a true friend who has contributed to the community.

“It is quite difficult for me to hear of his sudden passing,” he said.

Syed Saddiq said that Salahuddin was a person who never complained about facing difficult situations and always wanted to give it his best.

“I remember that when we served together (as federal ministers) in 2018 and 2019, there were indeed many obstacles that we faced.

“However, Salahuddin was always positive. He always reminded me to focus on work and not think too much about politics,” he said.
