KUALA LUMPUR, July 18 — Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari will continue helming Selangor should the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) pact win the August 12 vote, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.

Anwar, who is also PH chairman, said he was impressed with Selangor’s economic performance under Amirudin and that the latter has been successful in attracting foreign investments, Utusan Malaysia reported this afternoon.

“That is why I am proposing for Amirudin to be retained as menteri besar because of good economic growth, where it was observed the state's economic growth was 5.6 percent in the first quarter of this year, even higher than China or Singapore.

“Why are investments coming to this country? It is because our politics is stable,” Anwar was quoted telling reporters in Sabak Bernam, Selangor.

Amirudin, who is the present caretaker Selangor menteri besar and PKR vice president, will serve his second term if he is reappointed after having completed his first term since May 2018.

Amirudin is incumbent Sungai Tua assemblyman and also Gombak MP.

Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu will be having simultaneous state elections on August 12.

*Editor's note: An earlier version wrongly listed Amirudin as incumbent Dusun Tua assemblyman, which is held by Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof from DAP. It has since been corrected.
