KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 — The Terengganu PKR Youth has reportedly called on state Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar to cease all public land sales after a controversial deal with a group representing wives of former elected representatives there.

Malaysiakini reported that the youth wing also proposed that the state government implement a tender system to prevent what it called the “perpetuation of cronyism” under Samsuri.

“What considerations were given for the reduction of premium payments to a price that is 11 times cheaper than the original premium price?” the wing reportedly asked in a statement.

“What practices or precedents led to a payment that is 58 times cheaper than the market price for the land? When Samsuri says that this is just a minor issue, is the sale of land owned by the people to PAS-affiliated NGOs a common practice approved by their leadership?”

This comes after the state government reportedly sold an 11,299 square metre plot of land to the group called Khairunnisa’ Association for just RM500,000 despite the land’s valuation of RM29.3 million.

On June 3, Samsuri said that land sale was a non-issue and that all procedures were followed, and attributed the controversy to political motivations ahead of the upcoming state elections.

In response, the wing called Samsuri’s remarks “ironic”.

“It is ironic that several PAS Youth members spread false accusations on social media alleging that leaders in Pakatan Harapan acquired land. But it becomes a minor issue when concrete evidence emerges of their actions in selling public land for the benefit of PAS-affiliated NGOs,” it said.
