KUCHING, June 6 - Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president Datuk Larry Sng today said with former Ampang MP Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin and her supporters gone, the party is now on a good footing with a clean slate.

He compared PBM to PKR — which despite having just one seat after the 2004 general election, is now part of the ruling coalition.

"I believe PBM will continue to make an impact in the Malaysian political landscape and I welcome the court’s decision today,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.

Sng, who is also Julau MP, was referring to the Kuala Lumpur High’s decision to reject Zuraida’s application for leave to initiate a judicial review in getting the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to recognise her as Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president.

Sng said in politics, sometimes a person wins and sometimes he loses, but it doesn’t mean that since the person lost, that makes him a bad person.

"Not at all. On the contrary, I want to thank her for all that she has done to help promote the name of PBM, even when she is no longer a member of the party,” he said.

Earlier today, Judge Datuk Amarjeet Singh dismissed Zuraida’s application on the grounds that according to Section 18C of the Societies Act 1966, the court cannot hear cases of political party’s internal disputes.

Zuraida, who filed the application on March 24 naming RoS as the sole respondent, sought a declaration that RoS’ action to retain Sng as the PBM president was unlawful, and a mandamus order to compel RoS to recognise her as PBM’s rightful president effective October 7, 2022.

Zuraida, in her supporting affidavit, said she received a letter from PBM on October 27, 2022, informing her about her appointment as PBM president.

However, Zuraida said she had received a letter from the party dated December 19 of the same year, in which Soon declared himself as the PBM president and suspended her membership.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia previously said that Zuraida had applied to rejoin the party, after her failed attempt to take over the leadership of PBM.

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal was quoted saying that her application was however rejected because she refused to step down from being a minister when she left the party.
