JOHOR BARU, June 6 — The Johor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a 40-year-old part-time real estate agent for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to more than RM20,000 over the past two years.
According to sources, the female suspect was arrested at the Johor Baru MACC office in Jalan Pesiaran Tanjung in Tampoi here at 5.30pm today, shortly after she gave her statement to investigators.
It is understood that from 2021 to 2022, the suspect, who was an enforcement officer at a government department, had requested and received the bribes from two different individuals.
“The monetary inducement was allegedly in return for obtaining a non-Bumiputera lot of land for a housing project in the Johor.
“The suspect had also convinced the two individuals involved that she could obtain the lot by using her position as a department enforcement officer,” said the sources.
The case is being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009 for accepting bribes.
In a separate case, officers from the Segamat MACC branch detained a finance administrative assistant attached to a local authority for misusing her authority last year.
The 32-year-old female suspect was arrested at the Segamat MACC office at 2pm today after she was present to give her statement to investigators.
Sources said MACC investigators initiated a probe after she allegedly misused her position to credit salary arrears and allowances of others into her own account.
It is understood that the suspect, who was not eligible to receive the salary arrears and allowances, had deposited more than RM1,000 into her own salary account for a period between February and April last year.
The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 for abuse of power while in a government agency.
The suspect was later released on MACC bail.
Meanwhile, Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias, when contacted, confirmed the arrests of the two suspects.
