KUANTAN, May 9 ― Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB) project is being implemented in several districts to overcome the flood problem with an allocation of about RM501 million.
He said for Kuantan district, it involves the Integrated River Basin Development (PLSB) of the Sungai Kuantan Package One which is to upgrade Sungai Belat and build a flood prevention structure which is 99.73 per cent completed.
Apart from that, it also involves PLSB Sungai Kuantan Package Three which is to build a flood prevention dam in Kampung Cenderawasih and improve the existing dam in Kampung Sungai Isap with a new one, currently at three per cent
In Pekan, it involves the Pekan RTB phase two, which is the construction of the Sungai Pahang levee with the work status reaching 69 per cent while the development of the Sungai Semantan Temerloh RTB Phase One project in Temerloh district is at eight per cent.
According to him, there is also a project that is currently being designed involving a cost of RM168.7 million including PLSB Sungai Jelai, in Lipis Phase One and PLSB Sungai Kuantan Package Two, which is to build a flood prevention dam in Sungai Pandan and Sungai Kuantan in Bukit Rangin here.
“Besides, RTB Tanjung Gahai, Lipis, which is to build a flood mitigation bund, is in the process of appointing a contractor,” he told the Pahang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) meeting at Wisma Sri Pahang here today.
Wan Rosdy was replying to a question by V. Arumugam (BN-Sabai) who wanted to know the progress of the flood mitigation project in Pahang, especially in Bentong.
For Bentong district, Wan Rosdy said the state government through the Department of Irrigation and Drainage has made an 'off-budget' RTB proposal to the federal government with an estimated cost of RM410 million in 2022 and until now the proposed project is still being planned.
When replying a supplementary question by Arumugam who wanted to know what long-term projects the state government will implement to overcome the floods, Wan Rosdy said the state government has been requesting for allocations to take the appropriate actions.
“The state government concedes that Pahang has been hit by floods and this is something we cannot avoid, but as a concerned state government, we have requested some allocations which is our duty and responsibility,” he said. ― Bernama
