KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 — Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the state’s anti-party hopping Bill will not be tabled during the next sitting of the state legislative assembly which is scheduled to convene on May 8.
The Star reported Wan Rosdy as saying that the tabling of the Bill was delayed at the Opposition’s request.
The Jelai assemblyman added that he will take Perikatan Nasional’s suggestions into consideration before any changes are made to the Bill.
“They have given their reasons for the Bill to be postponed, which is to study and re-study and probably give their suggestions to us.
“On our part, if the suggestions are good there is no problem with changes or amendments,” he was quoted as saying after attending the Pahang Umno Hari Raya open house at Sungai Koyan today.
Wan Rosdy had previously said that the state government was ready to table an anti-party hopping Bill at the state legislative assembly if it gets the support of the Opposition.
During a briefing on the anti-party hopping Bill for Pahang assemblymen on April 12, Pahang Opposition leader, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, said that the Bill should be studied thoroughly and not be hurried, especially regarding the matter of appointed assemblymen.
Pahang is among the states that have yet to implement the anti-party hopping law for assemblymen since it came into force at the federal level on October 5 last year.
The Pahang State Legislative Assembly sitting is slated to last five days from May 8.
