KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 ― The Natural Water Services Commission (SPAN), under the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change (NRECC), has launched the fourth instalment of its Save Water campaign, first introduced in 2021. As the name suggests, the programme — which runs until December 31 — encourages the use of water-efficient products through the implementation of a water-efficient label, among other measures.

The most pertinent part for consumers is that the campaign will continue to offer rebates for the purchase of these products through Shopee, with SPAN allocating RM100,000 to the cause, Bernama reported. Buyers will also receive vouchers including a RM200 rebate on washing machines, a RM100 rebate on toilets and urinals and a 50 per cent discount (up to RM50) on taps and shower heads. They will have to verify their ShopeePay account by March 19 to be eligible for these vouchers.

According to NRECC minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the Save Water 4.0 campaign is in line with the government’s intention to increase the use of products through the Water-Efficient Product Labelling Scheme (WEPLS) among domestic and industrial users, as well as in government premises — as stated in the 12th Malaysia Plan.

He also said that the use of water-efficient products could help users save up to 50 per cent on their current bill depending on the rate of use. He added that the programme can increase awareness about these appliances and encourage the public to use them, and that he hoped suppliers could market more products to increase consumer choice. ― SoyaCincau
