JOHOR BARU, March 11 — The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) has been urged to collaborate with Institut Penyiaran dan Penerangan Tun Abdul Razak (IPPTAR) to produce a Digital and Multimedia Journalism (MoJo) module.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the module was required in line with the changes occurring in the field of journalism.
“We can see social media playing a role not only in terms of helping us identify issues but also as a platform for us to track developing situations.
“And this, for me, is a very interesting change in terms of journalism, and I urge Bernama to cooperate with IPPTAR,” he said in a press conference after visiting Bernama’s Johor Bureau bureau here today.
Also present were Ministry of Communications and Digital secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek and Bernama chief executive officer Roslan Ariffin.
Fahmi said that once the module was completed, it could not only be used as a reference for media practitioners and the Information Department, but also for ‘citizen journalists’.
He added that media practitioners needed to adapt to changes in the industry and technology to ensure that journalism ethics and quality were maintained.
“Changing times, constraints and difficulties in media assignments should not affect the quality of reporting facts to the people,” he added. — Bernama
