PUTRAJAYA, Feb 22 — The Home Ministry (KDN) seized 1,332 units of unapproved electronic Qurans and speaker plugs worth about RM55,000 in a raid on a two-storey terraced house in Kajang last month.

KDN Enforcement and Control Division secretary Nik Yusaimi Yussof said the raid was following intelligence and monitoring on the premises that had been conducting the sale of the items around the Klang Valley.

He said approval must be obtained from KDN to import or bring in such goods into the country for distribution or sale.

“The importer only needs to pay RM1,200 to check the sample of the material and this applies to every batch that was ordered,” he told a press conference today.

Nik Yusaimi said the approval of the Quran Printing, Control, and Licencing Board (LPPPQ) was required to ensure that the text and audio are correct and not confusing.

He said checks found that the seized materials imported from China were declared as decorative items and were sold online and delivered for between RM300 and RM500 for each electronic Quran, while the speaker plug costs RM30 per unit.

Nik Yusaimi said in the Ops Mulia raid, a woman in her early 30s was arrested to assist the investigation under Section 7 and 14(1) of the v Al-Quran Text Printing Act 1986.

“Buy, own and read Quran that has been certified by LPPPQ and stamped with a KDN hologram,” he said, adding that 54 electronic Qurans have been approved by KDN for sale and distribution in the country. — Bernama
