KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim scored a 68 per cent approval rating in a recent survey released today, which was lower than when Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad took office in 2018 and 2020.
According to independent pollster Merdeka Center's latest survey titled "Perceptions Towards Economy, Leadership and Current Issues Post GE15", 53 per cent of respondents said they were "somewhat satisfied" which Anwar's performance while 15 per cent were "very satisfied" with his performance thus far.
The survey took in 1,209 respondents aged 18 and above across the country and was conducted from December 26, 2022 until January 15, 2023.
Anwar has a massive 91 per cent approval from the Indians, 83 per cent from non-Malay Bumiputras, 73 per cent Chinese, 66 per cent Malay Bumiputras and another 60 per cent from Malays.
Anwar’s highest disapproval ratings is approximately 27 per cent of all Malays with the second closest also coming from Malay-Bumiputras at 17 per cent.
Eighty per cent of those aged between 18-20 expressed satisfaction with Anwar’s performance while the highest dissatisfaction was expressed by those aged between 51 and 60 at 26 per cent.
Around 71 per cent of those aged above 60 expressed satisfaction with Anwar followed by 69 per cent (31-40 years old), 68 per cent (21-30 years old), 63 per cent (41-50 years old) and 61 per cent from those aged between 51-60.
Anwar also has the majority of women’s approval where 69 per cent of all surveyed said they were satisfied with his performance while their male counterparts came in at 66 per cent.
Only 19 per cent of women and 20 per cent men polled were dissatisfied with him.
Apart from that 72 per cent of all East Malaysian’s were happy with Anwar followed by 67 per cent from the peninsular, 68 per cent of urban voters and 66 per cent rural voters.
His highest dissatisfaction rates came from the peninsular at 21 per cent.
