MELAKA, Feb 8 — A detailed study on traffic flow and road designs will be carried out to alleviate traffic congestion in front of Dataran Klebang to the Batang Tiga junction here.

Klebang State Assemblyman Datuk Lim Ban Hong said the study will be undertaken by the Public Works Department and the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) within two weeks and prior to the coordination meeting before proceeding with the modification of the traffic flow system in the area.

“After the study and coordination meeting, we will apply for funding from the federal government for the modification of the system and the road design since the matter involves a Federal road.

“Dataran Klebang is a tourist spot and traffic congestion is frequent and not only on weekends but during peak hours in the mornings and evenings,” he told reporters after visiting the site here today.

He said traffic congestion in the area has affected business activities, especially premises selling food.

In another development, Lim said the MBMB will undertake to reorganise the business lots around Dataran Klebang and the beach not only to maintain cleanliness but also for the safety of hawkers and road users.

Lim said they decided to reorganise the stalls to ensure that the public car park was not abused by hawkers who may decide to set up stalls in the area.

“Several days ago, MBMB Mayor, Datuk Shadan Othman went to the site to survey Dataran Klebang and around the coast before the reorganisation exercise was carried out.

“We hope the reorganisation exercise will create a better environment, not only for the traders but also for road users, tourists and locals,” he added. — Bernama
