SIBU, Jan 18 — MYAirline’s move to launch the Kuala Lumpur-Sibu flight as its second destination to Sarawak today coincides with the government’s desire to meet the people’s travel needs, especially during the festive season.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan said with promotional fares from as low as RM59 for a one-way ticket, the low-cost airline’s initiative will facilitate air mobility between Kuala Lumpur and Sibu.

“I believe that with the best of services provided, it will definitely give satisfaction to the people,” he said at Sibu Airport today.

Earlier, Khairul Firdaus arrived here with MYAirline chief executive officer (CEO) Rayner Teo on the company’s inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur to Sibu. MYAirline launched its Kuala Lumpur-Kuching flight on December 1, last year.

According to him, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has already held a meeting with airlines regarding skyrocketing airfares every festive season.

Khairul Firdaus said the sudden surge in fares during festivities is not fair for the people and he was confident that the meeting with airlines will yield results that can benefit all parties.

“I am confident that a decision that is beneficial to all parties can be reached,” he added.
