KOTA KINABALU, Jan 13 — Sindumin Assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob has been appointed chairman of the state government investment's arm, Qhazanah Sabah Berhad with immediate effect.

He takes over from Usukan assemblyman Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak who was sacked last Friday following reports of a purported power tussle between Umno and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.

Tanjung Papat Assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon was also appointed as chairman of Sabah Development Berhad (SDB). Poon is also Sabah DAP chief.

The position in SDB was previously held by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Congratulating Dr Yusof and Poon for their appointments in a brief ceremony at his office in Menara Kinabalu here today, Hajiji said he hoped they would be able to contribute to the growth of the state-owned companies.

Dr Yusof was among five Umno assemblymen who defied the party’s stand to withdraw support from the government which was formed by GRS and BN.

Poon is one of the seven Pakatan Harapan assemblymen who had also thrown their support behind Hajiji in last week’s power play.

The move led to a brief collapse of the state government which saw Umno’s top leaders including chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin dropped from the Cabinet and Salleh sacked.
