KUCHING, Dec 28 — Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president Datuk Larry Sng today said he will be travelling across the country next month to meet the party’s leaders and discuss its direction as well as oversee the appointment of new state chairmen, where necessary.
He said he will also explain to them the party’s support of the unity government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and its alignment with Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Parti Warisan Sabah.
“They are our new allies and the government’s position is our party’s direction,” he said in a statement.
He said PBM is a national party, with strong roots in Sarawak and Sabah, adding that its focus will be on developing the two Borneo states and on highlighting policy issues on the peninsula.
He said PBM has one parliamentary seat in Sarawak, two state seats in Selangor and one state seat in Sabah.
“We will defend and collaborate with our allies on forging an electoral pact. Joining a coalition will be something to be explored after six months; nonetheless, discussions are ongoing,” the Julau MP said.
Sng said the party prohibits all members from joining Muafakat Nasional.
He said those known to have joined will see their party membership suspended and eventually revoked.
“I believe this is a new beginning. We need clean and experienced leaders who are sincere about bringing positive change to the political landscape of this country.
“We will not accept controversial leaders from other parties as part of our leadership and will instead cultivate new leaders from within our ranks,” Sng said, adding those who are unhappy with the party are free to leave.
Yesterday, former Ampang MP Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin and 10 other PBM leaders were sacked from the party after they failed to respond to show-cause letters issued last Monday.
