KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 — The number of flood victims in five states climbed to 56,159 people this morning, with Terengganu and Kelantan continuing to record an increase in the number of evacuees compared to yesterday.

In Terengganu, the number of flood victims increased sharply to 37,792 involving 10,401 families, compared to 26,494 people from 7,369 families last night, and all of them were housed in 310 PSS in eight districts, according to the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat.

Kemaman was the worst-affected district with 12,000 victims; followed by Besut (8,228); Hulu Terengganu (6,691); Setiu (3,988); Dungun (2,484); Kuala Nerus (1,521); Kuala Terengganu (1,900), and Marang (980).

Heavy rain has been reported in many areas in Terengganu this morning.

In Kelantan, the https://ebanjir.kelantan.gov.my/ official portal reported that the number of evacuees rose to 17,326 people from 4,793 families this morning, compared with 14,359 people out of 3,942 families last night.

It said that 106 PPS had been opened in nine districts in the state, namely Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, Tumpat, Bachok, Tanah Merah, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai, Machang and Jeli.

According to the https://publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my/ website, the water levels of eight major rivers had surpassed the danger point. The rivers include Sungai Lebir in Kampung Tualang, Kuala Krai (41.57 metres), Sungai Golok in Kampung Jenob, Tanah Merah (24.01 metres) and Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas (10.80 metres).

In Pahang, the JBPN Secretariat reported that the flood victims placed in 11 PPS in Kuantan and Raub this morning remained 934 people, the same as recorded last night.

Sungai Keratong in Rompin was still at the danger level this morning while Sungai Tembeling in Kampung Merting, Jerantut and Sungai Luit in Kampung Subuh, Maran, were at the warning level.

Rain is forecast in all districts in Pahang this morning.

In Johor, the JBPN Secretariat informed that the number of evacuees in three PPS in the Segamat district remained at 53 from 17 families as of 8am.

The affected locations in the district are Kampung Seberang Batu Badak, Kampung Batu 5 and Kampung Kuala Paya.

The Irrigation and Drainage Department reported that the water level at Sungai Muar in Buloh Kasap, Segamat, was at the warning point (8.75 metres), while the weather was reported to be clear in all districts as of 8 am.

In Perak, 54 people from 17 families remain in two relief centres, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Tiang Darat in Bagan Datuk and Sekolah Menengah Abd Rahman Talib (SMART) in Hilir Perak. — Bernama
