SEBERANG PERAI, Dec 6 — The Penang state government will refer to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) top leadership on when to call for state polls for the PH-led state, said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

The Penang DAP chairman said the state will refer to the national leadership of the coalition to decide for all three PH-led states.

"Based on our informal discussions, we were looking at the end of the tenure which will take into consideration the Chinese New Year holiday, puasa month, Hari Raya, Hari Raya Haji and SPM exams,” he said.

He said the next possible window after the festivities and SPM exams will be May and June.

"At this moment, we have not discussed it formally yet, it was an informal discussion looking at the calendar,” he said.

When asked about Terengganu PAS election director Ariffin Deraman’s comments that now is the right time for the three PAS-led states; Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah, to hold state polls, Chow said the decision is entirely up to them.

"We will take note of this and we will refer this to the PH leadership,” he said.

Meanwhile, when asked about Barisan Nasional’s status in Penang, he said the coalition is still considered the state Opposition.

"They are still recovering from the elections,” he said when asked if there were any discussions with BN in Penang.
