JOHOR BARU, Dec 2 — Johor Pakatan Harapan (PH) is confident that the recently formed unity government will inject a new perspective in improving the system of federalism to be balanced and fair between Putrajaya and the state governments.

Johor PH said the new unity government can contribute towards economic revival, health, development and quality of life for all Malaysians.

“The 15th general election (GE15) had also opened a new chapter towards more mature politics, especially establishing cooperation between party coalitions, to prove that Malaysia needs the trust, confidence and joint efforts of leaders regardless of their political backgrounds in order to uplift the interests of the people.

“In that regard, Johor PH calls on Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi to enhance bipartisan cooperation between the state government and the Opposition in the state legislative assembly as part of the people's welfare agenda,” PH Johor said in a joint statement issued late last night.

The joint statement was signed by Johor PH chairman Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub and the component parties state representatives Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) state chief Aminolhuda Hassan, PKR deputy state chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh and DAP state chief Liew Chin Tong.

Johor PH said they are open and committed to working with the state government as well as the Federal government, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in an effort to improve the people’s quality of life.

The statement pointed out that Johor has now become PH's frontline state at the national level since the previous 14th general election (GE14) in 2018.

“It is clear from Johor once a Barisan Nasional (BN) stronghold, has started to open its gates to PH in GE14, while in the recent GE15 it has further strengthened its position and influence in Johor.

“In GE15, PH with the cooperation of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda), managed to secure 15 parliamentary seats in Johor compared to BN which only won nine seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) two seats.

“This decision is very meaningful for PH to continue the momentum for the welfare of the people after the Johor state election on March 12,” added the statement.

Johor PH also expressed its appreciation to voters including those who returned from abroad and gave solid support, to maintain PH's victory in 15 parliamentary seats in the state.

“The decision is very important because Johor has contributed 15 of a total of 82 parliamentary seats won by PH at the national level.

“The rise of Johor as a nation in GE15 is a clear message that the people want PH's authoritative leadership at the Federal level as well as the majority choice in Johor,” read the statement.
