JOHOR BARU, Nov 19 – Two women died while in the process of casting their votes in two separate polling stations in Johor today.

The Election Commission (EC) said the first woman was Juhara Syed Mohamad, 57, who died after casting her vote at SMK Sultan Ismail here at 9.30am.

“The first deceased experienced shortness of breath, before suddenly collapsing.

“The woman came to the polling station while she was unwell, based on the observation of the EC staff. However, she wanted to continue to cast her vote,” the state chapter of the EC said in a statement this afternoon.

The second woman was identified as Tuminah Ambiah, 85, who died before she was able to cast her ballot.

“Tuminah Ambiah died at SJKC Lit Terk in Paloh, Kluang at around 10.30am.

“The deceased had yet to cast her vote when she suddenly collapsed. Health Ministry staff, who were present at the scene, confirmed her passing after an ambulance arrived at the scene,” the EC said.

Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat confirmed that receiving notice of the two deaths.

He said their bodies of both women have been sent to two separate hospitals for post-mortem examinations.
