KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — As the 14-day campaigning period for the 15th general election comes to a close, Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin recounted his administration’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic and the country’s recovery to show his coalition deserved to lead the government once more.

In a statement this evening, Muhyiddin espoused three reasons for voters to mark the boxes next to the PN logo in their ballots tomorrow, the first of which was that PN is a party that has put concern for the people at the forefront of its agenda.

“From handing cash assistance to food baskets, wage subsidies to moratoriums, as well as ensuring vaccinations were given to all as quickly as possible; the PN government has done it and proved itself when it governed during the pandemic era.

“The PN government was sincere in helping steer the country and aiding all Malaysians regardless of race, religion and background,” Muhyiddin, who is also the chairman of the National Recovery Council, said.

His second point was that PN was made up of leaders that were clean of corruption, while his third reason was that the coalition’s leaders had good relations with each other, ensuring a strong and stable government if voted in.

“As I have stressed before, the impact of the pandemic is felt differently by each citizen of Malaysia.

“I realise the fact that more than 36,000 people died as a result of this pandemic and millions more were infected.

“We pray for those who died and I also pray for the wellbeing of all Malaysians who have been infected with the Covid-19 virus, including me and my family,” he added.

Muhyiddin’s PN is one of three coalitions in the running to win the most seats in tomorrow’s election, with the others being Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.

Forecasts have placed PN as likely to be second or third placed in the race where no coalition is expected to reach the 112 seats needed for a simple majority victory on its own.
