KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — Shah Alam police have today issued an advisory warning for Taman Sri Muda residents to park their vehicles on elevated ground, following torrential rain that saw several low-lying areas inundated this evening.
Shah Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said authorities have received reports of rising water levels in several areas surrounding Taman Sri Muda and the situation is currently under control.
“At present there are reports of rising water levels in several areas in Sri Muda Shah Alam. We are currently monitoring the situation from time to time,” he said in a brief statement to reporters.
Mohd Iqbal also said the Shah Alam City Council has opened the Sri Muda Modern Market multi-storey car park for surrounding residents to temporarily park their cars in the event of a flash flood.
Taman Sri Muda was one of the badly affected areas in last December’s floods, with several casualties recorded.
Separately, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said there was no flood risk reported in Taman Sri Muda, Seksyen 25; Kota Kemuning; Seksyen 17 to Seksyen 24 and Seksyen 32, Bukit Naga.
However, Norazam confirmed that several of the areas were knee-deep in water due to clogged drainage. “Rescue personnel have advised residents within said areas to take precautionary steps and to contact our department if the situation worsened,” he said.
