KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — Less than 24 hours after being officially announced as Pakatan Harapan's (PH) candidate in Bandar Tun Razak for the 15th general election (GE15), Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail received a warm welcome during her second walkabout at the parliamentary constituency.

Arriving around 9:30am at Nasi Lemak Kota Anggerik at Cheras here, the former PH chairman stopped to have breakfast and took pictures with the locals at a restaurant.

Clad in a classic yellow and green "Baju Kurung" with her trademark hand fan, Dr Wan Azizah then proceeded to continue her walkabout at a Chinese restaurant where she received a big round of applause from a group of approximately 20 patrons.

One of the patrons is 80-year-old Francis Tai who was having breakfast with his wife Kathleen Tai, he said that Dr Wan Azizah deserves to be receiving this sort of grand gesture as he hailed her as one of the greatest leaders to ever grace the country's political stage.

"I feel very lucky to have her contesting here in my constituency because I think that she is a magnanimous woman that has led the country and proved that she is a great leader," he told Malay Mail.

After that, the former deputy prime minister went to another restaurant where she once again received a cordial welcome from food stall owners and patrons.

Finance manager Benny Ngan, 49 who was among the patron having breakfast at the restaurant expressed his gratitude after knowing that Dr Wan Azizah was contesting at Bandar Tun Razak for the upcoming general election.

"I know she's a capable leader and can change the direction of the country into a much more promising future," he said.

Later in the day, Dr Wan Azizah went to greet residents at a low-cost apartment in Cheras and one of them who she met was a retired 71-year-old taxi driver Izham Hassan.

Izham, who just got his leg amputated last August said all he wishes for is for the next government to provide proper assistance and systematic accommodation for people with disabilities.

"I just wish that the next political party would take care of people that have the same fate as me," he said.

Yesterday, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that 72 candidates including Dr Wan Azizah who will be contesting in Bandar Tun Razak.

The late Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim won the Bandar Tun Razak seat as a PKR member in both the 2008 and 2013 general elections.

He was also appointed as the Selangor mentri besar in 2008.

However, PKR sacked Khalid in 2014 after he refused to make way for Dr Wan Azizah to replace him as the mentri besar.

In the 2018 general election, PKR won the seat once again with Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar, who quit the party after the Sheraton Move in February 2020.
