KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — Umno does not have the power to grant former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak a pardon for his crimes even if it wins the 15th general election (GE15), said its vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

Ismail Sabri said only the Yang di-Pertuan Agong could decide on Najib's application for a royal pardon, while his request for the Federal Court to review its decision regarding his appeal of his SRC International conviction will be left solely up to the judiciary.

“The government is consistent with the stance that we will not interfere with court matters... Umno is the same,” he said when met by reporters after the officiation ceremony of the Media City building in Angkasapuri here.

On August 23, the Federal Court upheld the 12-year prison sentence and RM210 million fine Najib received from the High Court that found him guilty of abuse, money laundering, and criminal breach of trust in the SRC International case.

On September 6, Najib applied for the Federal Court to review its decision on the matter.

The apex court has since set January 19, 2023 to hear Najib’s review application.
