KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 — The Seri Duta 1 Condominium in Taman Duta here has been found to be unsafe for occupancy due to a partial landslide, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said.

In a statement to news portal Malaysiakini, DBKL said that the management of the condominium had reacted immediately by evacuating units found unsafe for occupation, after the partial landslide near the residence.

DBKL said a consultant, Kumpulan Ikram Sdn Bhd, was appointed to analyse the safety of the building and the slope stiffness.

It said that a preliminary study by Ikram and observations by the Slope Division of the Public Works Department (PWD) found signs of impending danger and risk to the occupants of the condominium and residents on land owned by the Federal Land Commission (PTP).

“DBKL has also appointed Ikram to conduct a study on the slopes involved and Ikram is required to submit proposals to solve this problem,” it said.

“Ikram had also requested that the management of Seri Duta 1 Condominium appoint a consulting engineer by submitting a proposal for action to repair the building structure and slope immediately. The proposed action should be brought for discussion with Ikram for the direction of the proposed solution related to the landslide.

“The consultant appointed by the Seri Duta 1 Condominium management and Ikram are preparing a structural design to strengthen the foundation of the Seri Duta 1 Condominium building. At the same time, Ikram is also monitoring the movement of land and buildings in the area more closely,” DBKL added.

News portal Malaysiakini reported that residents recently evacuated the building due to safety concerns after a landslide at the base of several of its residential blocks, following a torrential rain and flooding in the Klang Valley.

The report said that last week, Indahria Apartment in Shah Alam and the Bangsar Indah condominium were also evacuated after they were deemed to be structurally unsafe.
