KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — Another 82 people nationwide died from Covid-19 today, raising the cumulative fatality count to 4,803 since the disease spread in Malaysia last year.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 870 Covid-19 patients have been warded in the intensive care units (ICU).

He said 433 of those in ICU needed ventilators.

Of today’s deaths, 50 were from the at-risk category of those above 60-years-old. Nine were aged 40 and below, including a 24-year-old woman who died at Hospital Selayang.

Eleven were people who were brought in dead.

All but 11 of the deceased were Malaysians.

Only 15 did not have pre-existing health problems.

“A total of 82 death cases today involving 31 cases in Selangor, 18 cases in Kuala Lumpur, eight cases in Johor, five cases in Negri Sembilan, four cases in Sarawak, three cases each in Pahang, Sabah and Labuan, two cases each in Penang and Kelantan, as well as one case each in Pahang, Perlis and Terengganu,” Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.
