KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s father, Datuk Wan Ismail Wan Mahmood, 93, died early today due to old age at his residence in Ampang here.

His remains were then brought to Masjid al Mustaqim in Taman Nirwana, Ampang, at 9am for the funeral rites and after that, to the Ukay Perdana Muslim Cemetery for burial.

Present at the mosque were Dr Wan Azizah, her husband, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president and their daughters, Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar and her sister, Nurul Illham.

Wan Ismail left a wife, Datin Mariah Khamis, four daughters, including Dr Wan Azizah, and a son.

Among those who were at the mosque to pay their last respects were Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and his deputy, Senator Liew Ching Tong.

Others included Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad. — Bernama
