LABUAN, Sept 14 — The search and rescue operation (SAR) for the third angler who went missing with two others while fishing in Pulau Sari Lawas on September 9 was called off last night.

Labuan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) enforcement chief, Capt Maritime Che Adnan Md Isa said the operation was halted at 6.30pm yesterday as rescuers did not find any fresh lead.

“The SAR operation was halted as there have been no new leads since the bodies of the other two victims were found on September 10 and another body which had yet to be confirmed found on September 11. However, the team will continue through routine operation,” he said in a statement today.

The third angler is known as Mohd Amirul Bakar, 26.

The first victim Yee Chon Tiong, 30 was found around Lawas waters at 8.50am on September 10 and the second victim, Faruk Arina Ahmad Sabri was found on the shoreline of the Pulau Sari Besar around 11pm the same day.

They were said to have set out to sea for fishing at 5am on September 9.

Che Adnan said the SAR operation involved Brunei royal maritime agency, Malaysian marine police, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and local fishermen. — Bernama
