KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 — Umno has received seven nominations for its party presidency, the highest in the party’s history.

Umno executive secretary Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who made the announcement at a news conference at the party headquarters here today, stopped short of revealing the full list of names of the nominees.

Malay Mail understands that one of the party deputy president hopefuls include former Johor mentri besar Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin.

He is expected to join Tan Sri Annuar Musa and Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who announced their nominations earlier.

Nominations closed at 5pm today.

Rauf said the names of nominees would only be revealed by secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor tomorrow, after the nominees have been checked by the Insolvency Department.

“Headquarters checked through all online nomination as well.

“Therefore, the total nominations for all the positions, from the excos for wings till permanent chairman, is 612,” Rauf said.

A staggering 150 names were submitted for the 25 Umno supreme council positions after nominations closed.

This includes the nine names submitted to contest the deputy president’s post, three for vice-presidency, three for permanent chairman and 14 for deputy permanent chairman.

A total of 240 names were nominated for Umno Youth wing positions. This includes nine for Umno Youth chief, nine for deputy Youth chief, 12 for permanent chairman and 12 for deputy permanent chairman.

For the Wanita wing, 103 names were nominated in total. This includes four for Wanita chief post, six for deputy chief, one for permanent chairman and four for deputy permanent chairman.

For the Puteri wing, a total of 101 names were nominated. Four names for Puteri chief position, six for deputy chief, one for permanent chairman and two for deputy permanent chairman.

Two hours after Rauf’s press conference, a list naming four fresh faces in the battle for the Umno president’s post started being shared on WhatsApp.

The unverified list showed Umno blogger and entrepreneur Rahmat Azim Abdul Aziz from the Kota Raja Umno division, Rosile Saat from the Bangi Umno division, Mohamed Iqbal Maricair from the Bandar Razak Umno division and Mohd Yusof Musa@ Jamaludin from the Iskandar Puteri Umno division.

Mohd Yusof’s photo was however, not attached in the list.

A party liaison officer present in Umno’s headquarters however, refused to confirm or deny the claim when asked to clarify.
