KUALA LUMPUR, MAY 25 — The final count of cash contained in 35 bags seized from three units at the Pavilion Residences linked to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was a whopping RM114 million in 26 different currencies.

Another half of a million in cash was recovered from Najib’s home in Langgak Duta in Jalan Duta, Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Commissioner Datuk Seri Amar Singh confirmed today.

The value of the foreign notes were based on exchange rates yesterday.

With the cash all counted, police are now expected to meet experts next week to determine the value of gold bars, watches and jewellery contained in another 37 bags also seized from the Pavilion units.

Amar said it took police three days to count all the cash, from May 21 to 23, following the seizure on May 18, in which they took the 72 bags along with 284 designer handbags.

“Yesterday, we sat with Bank Negara and Bank Islam audit officers to finalise the count.

“In the three days, we counted the hard cash using 11 machines with the help of 21 officers from the bank sectors,” he said.

Amar added the cash is now with Bank Negara while the seized jewellery and gold bars are stored safely in Bukit Aman, with only two high -ranking officers having the keys to the storage room.

The series of raids conducted at three properties linked to Najib is related to police investigations into the ongoing 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

Yesterday, Najib had his statement recorded for the second time at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya, where he was summoned to explain the transfer of RM42 million into his personal bank account.

The transfers were believed to be missing funds related to the 1MDB scandal.
